Mexico is among the top three countries listed on the International Living Annual Global Retirement Index, which names the countries where retirees can live better for less around the world. It also measures the level of significant retiree benefits and discounts, including continued savings on things like transportation, entertainment, social services, visa costs and healthcare. Retiring abroad is easier than ever before and some of the world’s most popular retirement destinations offer much more for the same amount of money than comparable cities in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
Despite the fact that Mexico does not offer a special retiree visa, staying here longer is not a problem. Mexico’s residence visas are very straightforward and the number of standard retiree benefits offered in Mexico are are what helped the country place third on the list, just behind Panama and Ecuador.
Mexico has a versatile senior-citizen discount card called the INAPAM (Instituto Nacional de las Personas Adultas Mayores). Expats ages 60 and older who have a residence visa for Mexico can apply for the card,¨ says Global Travel Industry News ¨Just as Mexican seniors do.†It allow retirees to receive discounts on goods and services including movie tickets, museums and archaeological site entrance fees,  and bus tickets. Many of Mexico’s hotels, restaurants, shops and travel agencies offer discounts to INAPAM card holders and many pharmacies, doctors, dentists and medical specialists who offer substantial senior discounts. Medications cost much less than they do in the United States as well.
