The word is out that President Felipe Calderón will on Monday, announce the bidding for the construction of the new airport for the Tulum real estate market. With investment of over three billion dollars, is considered one of the great works of the President’s term and final detonator for the Southeast economic region of Mexico, as announced yesterday by the Governor of Quintana Roo, Felix Gonzalez Canto.
This will be one of the most important announcements to affect this growing region of the Mexico real estate market this year.  This major infrastructure investment, which has been delayed for various reasons over the past three years, will be developed upon land in the new municipality of Tulum.  The international airport is to be located  on the recently renewed Tulum – Coba Hwy.
While the new airport represents an initial investment of three billion pesos, an estimated additional works will require a similar investment for service facilities such as gas stations, maintenance workshops and operating centers and business offices will work in the area, this translates into Tulum real estate opportunity.
According to the state  government, when the work enters its most important construction phase, it will generate a demand of 50 thousand workers, in addition to architects, engineers, technicians and other professionals and indirect jobs.
The Riviera Maya had in 2009, 2.8 million visitors, the government estimates that by 2025 the figure will grow to 17.9 million, Cancun now gets 12.6 million tourists, and has no place to grow, whereas the number of rooms in the Riviera Maya is estimated to increase from 37 ,600 up to 110 thousand over the next 15 years. Akumal alongwith Tulum will be getting be the bulk of real estate investment.
