Lake Chapala Real Estate Area Celebrates Grand Opening of Boardwalk in Jocotepec

Filed Under: Infrastructure News, Lake Chapala Real Estate, Living in Mexico, Mexico Cities, Mexico Colonial Cities, Mexico community information, Mexico Culture, Mexico Retirement, Mexico Retirement affordable living

Late in August, in the second stage of the development project for this town in the Lake Chapala real estate area, officials opened the San Juan Cosalá boardwalk in Jocotepec, which cost seven million pesos, of which three million 875 thousand were provided by the State Government.

Jocotepec lies on the western end of the Lake Chapala real estate area.  The town is very historical, with its original settlement dating to 1361 when the area was first established by Nahua Indians.  The Indians were conquered in 1520 by a cousin of the famous Hernan Cortes, who conquered the Aztecs in the Mexico City area.  The Spanish settlement in Jocotepec began in 1529.  For many years, Jocotepec was a stop on the stagecoach line between Guadalajara and Mexico City.

As a beautiful rustic village, Jocotepec appeals to visitors and residents alike, and offers a large variety of handicrafts, including hand-woven, flower-patterned sarapes.  This area of Lake Chapala real estate is known for the Mexican style villas with traditional courtyard gardens, and swimming pools.

The new boardwalk will be an attraction for visitors, as well as a relaxing place for residents to spend a free afternoon.

Jaime Niembro has served on the Lake Chapala real estate board as vice president and treasurer. He also is an active member of the AMPI association having served as president including the Chamber of Commerce. Jaime is the owner broker of Real Estate.
