Have You Visited the Colonial City of Morelia? Part 2 – Living in MoreliaVive en la hermosa Morelia, encanto colonial. Parte 2.

Yesterday I talked about Morelia and what the city is like; it would be a great place to visit, but also to live in – today’s topic.

Living in Morelia, Morelia real estateWould You Want to Live in Morelia?

Morelia might be a great place to visit, but I would say it’s an even better place to live – and Morelia real estate is a great option for this.  So far, the city has not been discovered by international tourism.  There are a handful of expats, but they are scattered throughout the city and have no formal organization or even informal “expat hangouts”; they just enjoy life in Morelia as it is.

Why doesn’t anyone know about it if it’s so great?  Basically, Mexico has so many great places, that international tourism hasn’t grown enough to discover all of them yet. (This is one of the reasons I say investing in Mexico is such a great idea; it’s potential has just barely begun to be tapped into.)  Mexicans know all about Morelia.  Some sources say that it’s the most visited non-beach city among Mexico’s mid to upper-class tourists.

Real Estate Options

Basically there are three real estate options.

1. Old Colonial Homes

For most expats in colonial cities, this is the favorite.  The Mexican middle class is currently in a trend of selling off their classic old homes in favor of something more modern out in the suburbs.  They sell these homes cheap because apparently no one wants to live in old home with a courtyard on a narrow street where you can hear church bells ringing and walk to the market.  Some expats have begun to buy these and enjoy this amazing lifestyle!

2. Lakefront Homes

3. Modern Condos

These are the properties where the middle/upper-class Mexicans are moving after selling their classic old homes.  And, of course, there is a very strong appeal; while being only a short drive from all the charm and culture of old Morelia, you can live in modern luxury next to a golf course and a shopping mall.  Onsite pools, gyms, day cares, movie theaters and spectacular views of the rolling hills are just a few example of features you might expect.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Morelia has a LOT of potential. The fact that it’s off the international radar adds some charm to it, and also makes it more affordable.  You might want to consider visiting – or even living here.  Think about it.
