Is There More Risk Buying Real Estate in Mexico than in the U.S.?

Brokers in MexicoIf you are a broker referring clients to a broker in Mexico, one question you will probably be thinking about is this:

Is there more risk buying Mexico real estate than in the U.S.?

The answer: Not if you work with the right broker.

In very basic terms, if your client works with the right broker who is qualified, a member of AMPI (the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals), which also makes them a Realtor, dedicated to providing the buyer with all available information and experienced enough to apply their knowledge in guiding them through the proper steps of the closing process, buying real estate in Mexico is completely safe.

Brokers in MexicoNow, if any of these factors are missing, this is where complications – title issues, payment and cost issues, unknown property deficiencies, etc. – may arise.  This is also true in the U.S.  The difference is since your client is not a Mexican citizen and is not familiar with Mexican business culture and government bureaucracy, the process of working through such complications would be much more difficult.

The bottom line is that it’s simply best to avoid these issues to begin with.  Help your client choose the right broker who will make the process of buying in Mexico safe and a suitable beginning for beginning life in paradise!
