What are real estate prices like in Mexico?  First of all, the general impression that real estate is cheaper in Mexico is true, and this is usually noticeably so.  Of course, the price differences are relative to the level of luxury, location, etc.

Most regions of Mexico – especially the main tourist and expat destinations – will have something nice for just about any budget.

However, since you as a broker know your clients, you will have a feel for their tastes and budgets.  This can allow you to make recommendations for location and other factors.

For example, if your client is on a budget of about $150,000 USD, and they are looking for a penthouse on the beachfront, you can let them know that this isn’t very realistic, but suggest a nice condo in a golf course community, or a reasonable walk away from the beach downtown within their price range that still offers a very comfortable lifestyle.

You can also suggest a region, based on their budgets and tastes.  For example, if a buyer wants to live in the “real Mexico” some colonial cities (like Merida or Morelia) offer beautiful properties for very low prices.  On the other hand, if they are looking for a more modern lifestyle with many expats around them, they will certainly find a nice property within their price range in a place like Playa del Carmen or Puerto Vallarta, for example.

The bottom line is, those who buy in Mexico will get more for their money.  But a few tips from their home broker ahead of time will never hurt!
