Mayan X-Tri

There is coming the Mayan X-Tri! Next May 1st we will have the triatlon at “Punta Venado”. This is a great activitie that you can do in most of the cities of Mexico and all year long.
This year I’m not participating on the event, but next year will be there for sure. Of course, this time we will be there to cheer the participants.

Campeche: a very colonial town

Finally, after 6 hours of trip we arrived to Campeche.  It was already dark and Thomas was exhausted, so we check-in in the hotel Gran Plaza and went for a little wok in the main square that is just 3 blocks away from our hotel.

The city at night is very secure, and very well illuminated. It’s amazing what well preserved is the cathedral.

During the walk we where talking about how nice could be buy and old house in the main square and live in this colorful town… will review prices of properties here, and best places for a retiring living in Campeche… (if you are interested in that, will be posting this properties here: Campeche Real Estate).

Here some photos of the walking:

On our way to Campeche: stop to eat Codorniz

Have you eaten Codorniz? or Borrego?

After 3 or 4 hours of driving thru little towns in our way to Campeche, we start geting hungry and decide start looking for a place to eat.  We pass tru a little town, but noting look appealing, and  then, just at an intersection where we needed to turn, a big place that says “Codorniz, Conejo y Borrego”.  Suddenly, Bill exclam “Stop, let’s eat here!  I love borrego!”.

It was a beautiful garden where they have Mamey and Lima trees. The tables where in little palapas in between the trees. Every thing clean and very organized. A very nice and clean  waiter arrived to ask us what we wanted to drink.  They had all kinds of flavor water plus beer and sodas.  The menu was hanging in a big “lona” behind us: Codorniz and Conejo (quail and rabbit) where the main dishes, but also have Borrego, and for desert all kinds of ice cream.

The food was delicious, the desert incredible and the road waiting for us, so after giving Liam and Tanya a little bit of time to run and climb on some trees, we get back to the car and keep our trip to Campeche.

Chemuyil a lovely community

We start our trip to Campeche picking up Bill and Claudia at Chemuyil… this little village is an Expat community. Chemuyil started like a government home-project directed to mid-low income Mexicans that work in the Riviera Maya near Xel-Ha. No one knows why they didn’t have success, but Bill found this project and decided to promote it between expats. This project was very well accepted for Americans, Canadians and some other expats, and after 3 months it was all sold out.

Chemuyil has 3 or 4 streets. The houses originally had one story with 2 bedrooms, but the house foundations let built the second story with no problem. All painted in white, with no grass in the garden and no trees in the streets… Now is a beautiful and color full community. The houses had been arranged: some have a second story, some have a porch, some of them get a Mexican garden with flowers and grass and some other ones have a desert style front yard.

Chemuyil is 15 minutes from the beach, and from a very important Turtle Reserve area in the Riviera Maya.

From my point of view, is a great place to live if you love the nature, the peaceful living and the Caribbean Ocean.

Living in Playa del Carmen and Retiring in Mexico

Living in Playa del Carmen?  Retiring in Mexico?
Fantastic.  For the both questions above.  As an American this is a great place to live and to enjoy nice warm winter days.  In the summer much hotter, but with all the A/C around, in stores, restaurants, homes, cars…. very very pleasant.  What I enjoy a great amount, and also notice from other friends recently arriving and installing, is that this is a great base for exploring.  There are so many activities for water sports and passtimes.  Everything is walking distance.  If you dont live right on the beach, you pack up a light lunch, and stroll down 2 or 3 blocks.   Want to explore a cenote or some Mayan ruins to discover what the heck is going to happen in 2012??!!  jump in the car and drive 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes  there are ruins all over the place down here.  Great hobby. Speak spanish??  No need to worry as there is a large ex pat community, plus so many schools and individual people here willing to help you learn it is also just enjoyable hobby.   As Bea says below,  I work in the Mexico real estate industry looking for great investments and even for perfect life style atmosphere for us Americans and Canadians and non-Mexicans.

Its a great adventure down here.  You feel alive with the natural beauty of the waters, the jungles, the history, the food, culture, and meeting interesting  people from all parts of the world down here on the Yucatan peninsula!  PLUS HAVING 70 DEGREE WEATHER IN JANUARY SURE BEATS A COLD CHILL FACTOR BELOW ZERO.

We live in Playa del Carmen

I have the purpose to write every second day, so here I go… first a little of introduction posts and then we will enter into matter.

We live in Playa del Carmen.  This is in Mexico, in the Yucatan Peninsula, with the beautiful caribbean ocean. We have been here for 5 years, and enjoy it a lot.

Living in Playa has been a hole adventure: our kids born here (twins, now they are 4); we change completely our life style because we where living in Mexico city (the big city), I was used to make 2 hours to my work… now I just go down stairs!

New friends, most of them Americans and Canadians, but also from every where: Italy, Argentina, Brazil, UK, etc.  Very, very cosmopolitan, I love that!

Thomas, my husband is from Indiana, USA and I’m from Mexico City… Liam and Tanya from Playa (lol).

What we like the most of Playa?  The beaches, the nature, the cenotes, the many places you can go to have fun with no paying one cent… and definitely, the people… nice, friendly and relaxed people…
