in the Riviera Maya

El Faro beach in Playa del Carmen is located in the very heart of downtown. It is marked by Playa del Carmen's most famous landmark - the beautiful lighthouse overlooking the beachfront; "Faro" is the Spanish word for "lighthouse." This same beach was recently fully restored to its full width, and is now one of the widest beaches of beautiful, white sand to be found; the Caribbean Sea beyond is the trademark turquoise. The water and the sand are warm and pleasant for walking and enjoying. All the shops, cafes and restaurants of Playa del Carmen's Fifth Avenue are only a short block away from El Faro beach.
