For many visitors, Mamitas Beach Club is the place to go, and they will return many times every time they visit Playa del Carmen. In this beach club, which is just north of the heart of downtown, people can hang out on lounge chairs shaded by a refreshing "palapa" (thatched-roof shade), sip cold drinks, listen to reggae or jazz or enjoy a bottle of liquor on one of the canopy beds, which are right on the soft, white sand. The restaurant is always nearby with great food, local treats, shrimp cocktails, etc. Every November, Mamitas beach in Playa del Carmen hosts the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival, where tourists, residents and locals all enjoy excellent live jazz directly on the beach under the stars.
