In Mayan, the name "Sian Ka'an" refers to either a gift from the sky or the place where the sky begins. The beauty of the name is only a reflection of the beauty you will find on the beaches of this natural paradise – truly "Mother Nature's beach." Miles and miles of pure and clean isolated beaches surrounded only by the turquoise Caribbean and dense, green jungle offer a magical place where you can forget about the busy world. Located just south of Tulum Sian Ka'an is one of Mexico's largest biosphere reserve with over 528,000 hectares (1.3 million acres), which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. It is one of the most biologically diverse places in the world, with over 300 species of birds. It has a surprisingly large variety of different ecosystems, including islands, lagoons, wetlands, dunes, swamps and Mangroves. It is also home to the largest breeding grounds for lobsters in Mexico.
