When you choose a Mexico retirement, you may consider a variety of locations, including new destinations.  In the case of established locations, it’s usually fairly easy to find information confirming if it’s the kind of location you will like.  In the case of newer, up-and-coming areas, you may need to dig a little deeper.  The following features of two emerging real estate/tourism markets - Rocky Point real estate and Campeche real estate - will help you see some features that are worth looking for.

Proximity

In the case of Rocky Point, this is a very straight-forward feature; it is located at the northern tip of the Sea of Cortes, only an hour or two away from Arizona.  The area has been called “Arizona’s Beachfront.”

Campeche, while at the far, south-east corner of the country, is very close to both Merida and Cancun.  These cities both have well-connected international airports.  They are also well-established tourism and real estate destinations, which are promising to “overflow” and create one large region in the Yucatan Peninsula, including Campeche.

Beaches & Attractions

Both areas have nice beaches. Rocky Point is surrounded by beautiful desert landscapes with many excellent camping areas, and enjoys the boating culture of the Sea of Cortes.

Campeche is a beautiful colonial city, close to Mayan ruins and surrounded by lush jungle with many options in eco-tourism.

Growing Tourism

While Rocky Point is not new as an expat/tourist destination, a recently completed new highway has opened up the area to a good deal of more visitors from the U.S.  In the Case of Campeche, ongoing growth of interest in the Yucatan area has already brought not only adventurous visitors, but even golf courses and a marina!

Growing Real Estate

The appearance of new tourists in both areas means that real estate has also begun to grow.  This means that retirees have more good options to enjoy the benefits listed above.

Low Prices

While more options are appearing, and both locations offer excellent lifestyle, the prices of real estate are still very low, even in Mexican terms.

Low Cost of Living

The same can be said of the cost of living; for retirees, this factor can make the difference of living really well, while not putting unnecessary strain on the budget.

Both of these locations are excellent retirement locations, both are “newer” in the sense that they are just gaining increasing attention, and both are affordable to the average budget.
