When you make that big decision to buy Playa del Carmen real estate, and begin your life in paradise, you will want to follow some basic tips to ensure that the process goes as smoothly and safely as possible, and that you get the best value on a suitable property.   The following are 5 tips you will want to remember.

1. Find an experienced, suitable agent

There are many people working as real estate agents in Playa del Carmen.   Many of them have no qualifications to be doing so, but since there are no requirements from the government, it is up to you to do your homework and check to make sure your agent is professional, qualified and experienced.   Check for certificates and degrees.   Ask for contact info for past clients and check them as references.

2. Consider all locations equally

Many people get hung up on owning on the beachfront; while this is for a good reason (the beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world) there are many other excellent locations to choose from, such as golf course communities, closed gated communities and residential areas of downtown.   All of these will still have very close access to the beach, yet prices are often significantly lower.

3. Don't feel rushed

If you feel rushed or pressured, it's probably best to steer clear of the situation. (If it's your agent pressuring you, you might want to reconsider tip #1!)   While the market is healthy in Playa del Carmen and deals do get picked up quickly, there will always be another opportunity.   Closely related is that if it looks “too good to be true,” it probably really is too good to be true.   Your agent should be able to give you credible explanations about why a great deal is available, and if there are any downsides.

4. Know your financing options

There are at least 2 banks in Playa del Carmen that offer financing options for non-Mexican buyers.   A growing number of international developers in the area are also offering their own financing.   Ask your agent and make sure you know your options!

5. Know the process

Ask your agent for articles, pamphlets or an e-book about the purchasing process in Mexico.   While the right agent will be able to guide your through step by step, they will also gladly provide you with information on the process so you feel comfortable every step of the way!

Following these 5 tips will greatly improve the process as a whole for you, and you will find that they are well worth any effort they may require.
