People who know about the Playa del Carmen real estate market will be familiar with the excellent condos downtown and near the beach and the homes on the golf courses, etc. But land? Well, there's that lot for sale downtown for a million dollars or something like that that a big-time developer will eventually buy up for some fancy project.

But for your retirement dream home? Well, that's just not a serious consideration.

Or, at least that's the impression on the surface.

If you dig a little deeper into the market, you'll find that there are, in fact, excellent lots for sale, for good prices and in nice communities that offer a relaxing and convenient lifestyle.

So, where do you find these lots?

First of all, you can see some great examples here. But as for an actual description of where they are, consider these kinds of locations:

Back from the beach

Playa del Carmen continues to grow rapidly. Most of the growth until now has taken place lengthwise along the beachfront. Very little development has taken place “backwards,” away from the beach. The newly developing areas back from the beach are still only a 10 - 15 minute drive away. For many retirees, this would be close enough to enjoy the beachfront lifestyle, considering that up until now the beach was usually a few hours away at best (and certainly not a beach like this one.)

These areas also offer lots for sale in nice gated communities, near shopping malls, restaurants and other services.

New gated developments

Both back from the beach, and in even in some areas within walking distance of the beach, there are new gated communities sprouting up; many of these offer lots for sale. The quiet lifestyle offered by these picturesque, natural communities are ideal for many people's retirement tastes.

Prices are competitive, and retirees can enjoy their custom retirement dream home for a cost even lower than completed or re-sale homes in the area.

Eco developments

While Tulum is usually the hub for eco culture, there are a handful of eco developments near Playa del Carmen where residents have sustainable homes with nature-inspired designs built. The eco lifestyle is appealing to many retirees who want to re-connect the natural lifestyle.

Lots in all of these situations are well-priced and offer an ideal retirement lifestyle, including a variety of choices giving the choice of location style best suited to each retirees tastes.
