In any list of the 10 best places for Mexico retirement, Puerto Vallarta is most certainly near the top. For more than 5 decades now, Puerto Vallarta has been home to a large expat community, which has now grown to about 50,000 Americans and Canadians. The thriving tourism industry in this city has brought a large number of services and activities ideal for enjoying retirement on the beach. While condos have grown as a retirement favorite, the two other options, Puerto Vallarta Homes and land, should not be overlooked.

Homes for a comfortable retirement in Puerto Vallarta can be found in all price ranges. Those looking for high-end luxury can find homes running $2 million USD and upwards. For around this price a buyer could find a 3 bedroom home with a pool and number of other luxuries, as well as a 2 bedroom guest house, either a traditional "hacienda" style home with a spectacular view of the ocean and the historic downtown, near the original American community ("Gringo Gulch") or modern style luxury in one of the newer areas.

For those buying on a budget, many options are also available. For a bit over $120,000 USD, a newer (but smaller) 3 bedroom home in a condominium setting can be found, only a few blocks from the beach and within walking distance (2-3 blocks) from the shopping and conveniences of the new Marina, about half way around the bay of Banderas, 20 minutes from downtown.

For about $500,000, larger homes closer to downtown in an up-and-coming neighborhood are available, only a short, and cheap, taxi ride away. On the other hand, a fixer-upper in the same neighborhood could be found for about half that, for those who still have some time before retirement to invest into converting the property into the home they've always dreamed of.

Another good option for those who have some time and would like to have a home built according their own design is Puerto Vallarta land. Lots can be found as low as $60,000 USD, in new, but well designed neighborhoods with numerous new stores and shopping centers a short walk away. From their prices go through up through all ranges, and through all parts of the city, with the top end for residential lots being around $1.5 million, for a lot, again overlooking the ocean and the prestigious old neighborhoods of the south of the old town.

If you are considering retirement in this thriving expat community, your options are broad, and within reach of just about any budget, and matching the luxury of just about any lifestyle.
