Since Cancun real estate market first came into existence as the result of the creation of Mexico's first integrated resort community, Cancun has grown into a large city nearing 1 million, well on its way to becoming the biggest city on the Yucatan Peninsula. While in this process, Cancun land has become much less common, with a lot of the market focusing on homes and condos, a land purchase in Cancun can still be a very viable way for planning for a Mexico retirement in the future, or make an investment.

Although land in the Hotel Zone is now in reach of only large-scale developers, and in the city itself there are few lots available, these can still provide excellent investment opportunities for those who have access to the funds to develop either for the tourist industry, a custom-built high-quality residential, or for business purpose.

Cancun has been growing tremendously, not only "cashing-in" on its beautiful beaches, tourism activities and its well-earned reputation, but also investing to attract further types of tourism, such as international conventions and meetings, as well as some high-profile Hollywood events, such as Sony's presentation of soon-to-be released movies (this event, for the second year in a row, has brought some famous stars to the area, such as Angelina Jolie, and Jackie Chan.)

Because of this effort, Cancun has continued to expand its tourism and offer more and higher-quality services both to tourists and to those who live here. This means that there will be an ongoing demand for new property and business, and those who invest in land here are sure to see good return on that investment.

On the other hand, for those who wish to buy land and have their own home built, there are also good options for this. In outlying communities, for example, between the city and the airport, there are lots for sale for reasonable prices within reach of the average home buyer. After having a home personally designed and well-built, such buyers will be able to enjoy life in their dream home only a short drive from one of the most famous beaches in the world, as well as to the conveniences of downtown, and the shopping and thriving nightlife of the hotel zone.

Again, as the city continues to invest in new branches of tourism, new services will appear within very close access to these areas, adding to the ones which already exit.
