If you are looking for Yucatan real estate, one of the options you may consider is a lot. The city of Merida, capital of the state of Yucatan, and the surrounding area offer a variety of land options, both in terms of price and in usage possibilities.

Looking at the low end of the prices, for under $25,000 USD a buyer can obtain Yucatan land on the edge of the city, in a small town atmosphere, still only a short drive (15 min) away from the city center. A lot such as this one would be ideal for building a personally designed home, where a retiree or family can enjoy a relaxing life close to just about everything. The lot may include beautiful fruit trees (with tasty fruit, of course), and residents could wake up to the sound of birds singing every morning. A lot located on the edge of town would also be only about 25 minutes away from Yucatan's famous beachfront.

At the higher end of prices, an 80 acre ranch can be bought for around $600,000 US. A ranch for this price would also be very close to the conveniences and culture of Merida's colonial city center. It could include complete orchards and other vegetable growth, and spaces for horses and other animals. It may even include a private "cenote," a natural pool of fresh, cool water at the entrance to the area's underground cave system, perfect for a refreshing swim on a hot summer day.

A plot of land for this price would probably come with a rustic sort of home on site, leaving the buyer with the option of using the property as it its to enjoy a true "get-away" vacation spot, or building a new, custom home to include a few luxuries. Ranches can be found for both more and less, depending on the distance from Merida, and if it will need work to convert into that perfect retirement or vacation spot.

In Merida itself, there are many kinds of land, including residential, commercial or lots for combined development. The range of options is incredible; but buyers will enjoy a few points in common – warm weather all year, close access to a beach, a short drive to one of the world's most well-maintained, cleanest and safest colonial cities, as well as the beautiful country side and lush tropical nature in the surrounding area.
