If you have been drawn by the warm weather, charming old cities, beautiful beaches, lush nature and colorful culture of Yucatan for your retirement, one option you can consider is Yucatan land. While properties in Yucatan tend to be very well-priced, excellent options in Yucatan land can be found at even lower prices, allowing you to save more of your retirement funds to enjoy life here.

Mexico land in Yucatan can be found in the form of city lots, ideal for building a home close to all amenities, often walking distance to all the basics, and sometimes even more. The most populous city, the business and cultural center of the Yucatan Peninsula is Merida. Merida can boast the second largest colonial city center in Mexico, only smaller than Mexico city's (although the city of Merida on the whole is much smaller, calmer and safer.)

The home you have built on your lot will allow both the pleasure of close access to this culturally and historically rich downtown area, and to the many conveniences of a modern city, such as shopping malls, movie theaters, golf courses, and very good hospitals. Because of the excellent combination, Merida has already begun growing as a Mexican retirement community for expats, and with plans on the way to open retirement-specific health care facilities, this community is only bound to grow.

Another place to consider land is in the surrounding towns or countryside. Whether you buy a spacious lot in a village, or a larger plot of land out of town to create your own ranch, you will enjoy space, peace and quiet and fresh air – all with the warm weather of Yucatan, and the warm, welcoming culture of the locals. Beachfront communities are another option; Yucatan has long stretches of beachfront, and nearby lots are available.

Regardless of which type of land you choose, you will notice that in Yucatan, prices are very accessible. The price of having your dream home built will likewise be considerably less. This means two things; one is that you will be enjoying retirement in the type of community, size of property and style of home that you want. The other is that you will not put large pressures on your hard-earned retirement savings to do so.

This last point will leave you with more funds to enjoy retirement, and treat yourself to going out, traveling (the Yucatan Peninsula has many, many great places to travel, and good air-travel access to a large number of other destinations,) and other little luxuries in life. The cost of living is also noticeably lower, meaning that on a day to day basis, your savings will go that much further.
