The first direct flight from Canada came from Calgary, offered by the Canadian airline, Westjet. This first flight was given a special "grand-opening" type speech from the president of Westjet, Tyson Matheson. In an interview Matheson outlined a number of the benefits of Ixtapa Real Estate and tourism, which led the company to offer its customers a direct flight to this retirement and beachfront lifestyle destination.
The direct flight from Calgary to Ixtapa is approximately 5 hours, the first flight leaving Canada at 9 am (Mountain Time), and arriving in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo at 3 pm (Central Time). It is scheduled landing two flights a week from this month until May 2010, a number which could increase according to demand. Matheson also mentioned the possibility of expanding to offer flights from other destinations, again according to demand.
