In recent decades, Lake Chapala Real Estate has become a focal point for Americans and Canadians enjoying a relaxing Mexico Retirement. Though a significant number of North Americans have arrived to make this beautiful area their home, the area still retains a small town atmosphere; Chapala, the larges town on the lake, has a population of less than 50,000, and the nearby town of Ajijic is slightly less. The Mexico Retirement Communities in the Lake Chapala area combine this quaint small town atmosphere is combined with a convenient lifestyle, offering all the benefits of modern infrastructure and services.

One important convenience is the nearby Guadalajara International Airport, which is about 45 minutes away, and offers regular direct flights to all major North American airports. The importance of the retirement community in the Lake Chapala area is such that it is actually the first destination in the area to receive service at the airport's new bus terminal. While the installations are 100% complete, the terminal is running at about 20%, and this service is currently dedicated solely to the Chapala real estate area.

The recently completed terminal includes comfortable new chairs, modern, well maintained restrooms and near-luxury facilities. While there are other options for Chapala residents who have opted not to buy a car in Mexico, such as private or shared taxis (vans), the new bus terminal offers a very affordable, but comfortable option for those returning from a visit back home with light luggage, or for visitors – once people see how comfortable life is here, you'll have many.

Retirement in the Lake Chapala area is relaxing; the towns of Chapala and Ajijic are quaint with coble stone roads and beautiful views of the lake. Residents can enjoy many activities, including sports, such as sailing and cycling. The towns have also retained a very Mexican flavor, with many rich festivals every year, as well traditional craft sales; Mexicans and non-Mexicans alike see themselves as locals, and are used to interacting and sharing culture with each other. The level of infrastructure and services in the area, and easy access to the services of Guadalajara make retirement living in Lake Chapala an ideal combination of a relaxing atmosphere and convenience.
