Tulum Real Estate, along with the neighboring and closely tied Akumal Real Estate area, is continuously showing more signs of growing into an strong market with features distinct from Playa del Carmen, its more established neighbor up the road. A new municipality for Tulum, an independent chapter of the professional real estate association, and a soon-to-come international airport all point to great possibilities for Mexico Land investments in the area, as well as home and condo purchases – markets which show promise to grow in the near future.

Until recently, Tulum and Akumal were part of the municipality of Solidaridad, the seat of which is Playa del Carmen. As of 2009, Tulum is a separate municipality, and has already designed a well developed urban growth plan to ensure the ongoing attractiveness of the town, a practical and visually appealing lay out, and the growing value of real estate in Tulum.

To support and help plan for the expected new growth, as of January, 2010, Tulum also received a new chapter of AMPI, the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals. The association promotes professionalism in the real estate industry, providing training, information and codes of conduct for member real estate professionals – a much needed aspect, as in Mexico laws to protect buyers and sellers are not as developed as in the U.S. or Canada.

An acknowledgement of, and a strong catalyst for, Tulum's growing role in the tourism and real estate industries is the building of the Riviera Maya International Airport, only a few miles outside of the town of Tulum. The airport, expected to start operations in 3 years, will bring a new influx of tourism to Tulum, placing at a central point between the established areas to the north (Cancun and Playa del Carmen) and the up-and-coming tourism area to the south, centered on Mahahual and Costa Maya.

For this reason, those who are currently investing in Mexico land in the Tulum area are likely to see that in the near future they will either own a beachfront home at a much lower price than it will be worth, a situation ideal both for home owners who wish to live in Tulum, or for investors.

Akumal, just north of Tulum, likewise shows promising real estate opportunities, including luxury beachfront homes, land and condominiums. Akumal is a quaint village with an incredible beachfront and a lot of trees and nature blended in, and as Tulum grows, interest in Akumal will also grow.
