Puerto Vallarta real estate buyers have the advantage of living in one of the safest communities in Mexico and beyond, making Puerto Vallarta one of the most ideal places to live in Mexico, and enjoy a beachfront lifestyle. There are several reasons for this; one is the fact that Mexico currently enjoys one of the lowest unemployment rates, reflecting economical stability and leading to content citizens.

If you consider the current political environment up in the U.S, you see a lot of people up in arms, with unemployment, which is at a national level of 10%, being by and large the largest root cause of discontent – of course, there are many other issues as well, but this one is without a doubt, a big one.

Now compare this to Mexico. Unemployment is at about half this, at 4.9%. This is a full 5% lower than in the U.S, and 4% lower than the average of 8.7% for the member nations of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and placed the country at #3 within this group. Even Canada, which beat the average at 8.1%, didn't come anywhere near Mexico.

A large part of the reason unemployment is low in Mexico is because of the thriving tourism industry in places like Puerto Vallarta, as well as foreign real estate investors. The people in Puerto Vallarta know this, and appreciate the opportunities they have because of this.

What does this mean for you as Puerto Vallarta property buyer? One is that it means the Mexican economy is healthy, and this does a lot to protect the value of your investment, with good roads, a large number of services, and many consumers – not only foreign, but locals as well.

The other is that the appreciation that the locals have for employment and economy isn't just warm feelings, it actually translates into the safety that all residents enjoy here on a day to day basis. It's a fairly well known fact that long-term high unemployment leads to increased theft, and healthy employment numbers means increased safety and lower crime. Of course, to be realistic, Puerto Vallarta isn't crime free, but recent statistics have shown that Mexico as a whole is considerably safer in terms of violent crimes and murder than many large U.S. cities. This is even more true in a safe place like Puerto Vallarta.
