While all Mexico real estate areas offer reasonable variety, Yucatan real estate is special in that it is truly a real estate region which offers a full variety of community styles, property styles and locations.  Here we will consider some of these options.

Merida – Colonial Homes – Merida has fairly earned a reputation as one of Mexico’s (and Latin America’s) top choices for colonial homes.  Besides offering a broad range of such homes, ranging from fully restored mansions to little fixer-uppers, Merida also offers a walk-everywhere lifestyle full of culture and history.  It also offers a full range of modern conveniences including international stores, large malls and sports complexes.

Modern Condos – Gated Communities – Merida and the state of Yucatan as a whole also offers excellent options in modern gated communities with nice condos for those who prefer to enjoy Yucatan’s cultural richness from modern comfort which they are used to – or, more correctly, modern comfort above and beyond what they are used to, since money for a property and for lifestyle just goes that much further in Yucatan.

Beachfront Towns – The entire north shore of Yucatan is made up of long stretches of seemingly endless beaches.  Along these beaches there is a series of small towns which, although already favourites for a handful of expats, are not very touristy in the international sense.  Many real estate buyers enjoy these towns who like the combination of local relation, connection with the Mexican people, and a close-knit community of folks from back home.

Beachfront homes – In town, the favorites can include homes on or near the beachfront as well as condos.  Outside of these towns, however, there are entire stretches of beautiful, luxury homes directly on the beachfront.  These homes have spacious lots, splendid views and even special features like the fold-away glass walls that offer a complete indoor-outdoor lifestyle.  Infinity pools are also not uncommon.  Prices are also more accessible than people would usually imagine since the main owners and buyers in the area are Merida’s middle class rather than affluent international buyers.

Smaller Colonial Cities – While the areas mentioned above tend to be the favorites, there are also a handful of beautiful little colonial cities throughout the state of Yucatan which offer quiet, comfortable and relaxed living in close contact with the area’s rich culture and the Mayan people, who still make up a large portion of the population.

Yucatan is in itself a full real estate region with many excellent options; these are only a brief overview, and there are in fact even more that buyers can choose from.
