When buyers from another country purchase Mexico Real Estate, one factor which they always consider is the relation with the local population; in the case of Playa del Carmen Real Estate, as with many other real estate locations in Mexico, there is a friendly, warm and welcoming feeling with the Mexican nationals, who are more often than not, more than willing to struggle through half broken English, half broken Spanish conversations (when necessary, since most of them have learned the basics fairly well,) give directions, show where to find specific items, etc. One way in which this relation is fostered is through social responsibility in tourism companies which exist in the area; recently one of the area's nature parks, Xel-ha, was officially recognized for excellent social practices.

Early in February, the Mexican Center for Philanthropy announced that the Xel-ha was being granted, for the ninth consecutive year, the hallmark of a Socially Responsible Company (ESR, the Spanish acronym). Every year since 2001, Xel-Ha has been credited with the ESR title for quality of life in business, business ethics, involvement with the community, as well as preservation and care the environment.

This year, the Center for Philanthropy included an additional assessment for businesses with more than 6 years with the ESR distinction , which reviewed the company's actions taken around responsible consumption and purchases. This review refers to programs companies launch to go beyond its own best practices, involving suppliers in the circle of corporate social responsibility.

Among other things, the evaluation about responsible consumption Xel-Ha stressed that the eco-park promotes and shows respect for human dignity in production, marketing and advertising their products and services, analyzes the content of their campaigns and promotions, aligning tem with the values of company and community, and establishes measures and criteria to assess the alignment of their values to the performance of their service providers in advertising and marketing.

The methodology used by the Center for Philanthropy is thorough, involving not only the voluntary declaration of the actions the company makes to influence the culture of corporate social responsibility, but how these actions wereperformed, documenting them through policies, procedure manuals, regulations and codes, evidence of certificates and action, and recognition of others to the work in question.

Even though enterprises are distinguished as an "ESR," the reports are given that are pinpoint areas of opportunity they can improve, which allow them to improve consistently. In this way, Xel-Ha has achieved a higher level than the national average for two years, at a level of outstanding in the areas of environment, links with the community and quality of life in the company. Xel-Ha is the first company in Quintana Roo and the first tour company in Mexico that won the distinction of ESR, and was committed to further strengthen its performance against society.

What does this specifically mean for real estate buyers? This means that large organizations in the area are setting benchmarks to care for the environment – one of the main attractions for buyers. It also means that they are setting benchmarks for responsibility towards the community, both foreigners and Mexican nationals who work at the park. This kind of positive work atmosphere has played a significant part in creating the comfortable, friendly relationship which non-Mexican real estate owners share with their neighbors. Mexico real estate buyers who choose top quality beachfront in Playa del Carmen can do so resting assured that they will be living in a very friendly, warm community setting which shows responsibility for its surroundings.
