The development of a positive urban atmosphere which has in many ways defined Playa del Carmen Real Estate for the Americans and Canadians who live here has most recently been demonstrated in the proposal for a new YMCA facility in Playa del Carmen; the proposal comes from Debbi Ford, the director of the YMCA in Glendale, Colorado – Playa del Carmen' sister city – as part of an exchange of programs between the two cities. For Playa del Carmen Home and condo owners, this demonstrates the multi-level commitment to the development of a strong sense of community in this city, part of what draws many foreigners to choose to make it their new home.

During Ford's visit, the staff presented the project to establish a YMCA in Playa del Carmen; Playa del Carmen is considered to have more than adequate human resources and sports facilities for the organization. The visit included a tour of the Riviera Maya Sports Center, a location which will be considered by the YMCA board of Glendale, Colorado.

YMCA is the oldest voluntary organization in the world, founded in London, England, in 1844, the mission of which is to serve individuals, families and communities, ensuring their physical, intellectual and spiritual development. It currently has more than 45 million members in over 120 countries worldwide.

In Mexico there are currently YMCA organizations in 10 cities, with sports centers, special education centers, centers for children and migrant children. If the plans are carried out, this will make Playa del Carmen one of only a few cities in Mexico to have a YMCA.

The development reflects the fact that there are many different levels of commitment to the continuous development and improvement of the Playa del Carmen community as a whole. While Playa del Carmen has been growing tremendously as a favorite luxury beachfront real estate destination for Americans, Canadians, Italians and people from many other countries, part of what has distinguished Playa del Carmen's lifestyle atmosphere and real estate growth opportunities.

The strong development of benefits, such as sports facilities and well developed public access to the beach, for working class communities in Playa del Carmen have made the relationship between foreigner and local a relatively positive one, developing a healthy lifestyle through out the city. In addition to this, the positive atmosphere in some working-class communities near the beachfront in Playa del Carmen has begun to open up new real estate opportunities. Besides the high-end Playa del Carmen Condos in areas that have already been established as favorites among foreigners, new areas of the city begin to show a promising outlook at more affordable prices, for investors looking for "up-and-coming" areas, or those hoping to buy a Playa del Carmen "fixer-upper" home, and enjoy life near the beach, without the cost.
