While recently several magazines, including "Canadian Family" and the Mexican "Eres Niños" have researched the destination to promote it as an ideal tourist destination for families with children, Playa del Carmen real estate also provides ideal location for American and Canadian families to relocate to a warmer climate in a safe city on the beachfront. Both Playa del Carmen beachfront condos and homes in gated communities provide excellent options for parents with young children or teens.

Canadian Family, which is distributed throughout the country, and publishes 10 editions annually with a circulation of 100,000 copies each, will feature Playa del Carmen and the surrounding Riviera Maya in its travel section. The report which this magazine will distribute is based on a tour carried out by two adults accompanied by two children, visiting areas such as the archaeological site of Tulum and Xel-ha, where the children enjoyed the activities offered in that extensive eco-park. The report on the Riviera Maya will be published in November.

"Eres Niños", which has a circulation of 80,000 copies, will feature a 16-page article in July, 2010. This magazine sent a group of children and adolescents, who visited several tourist destinations such as a dive center, the Puerto Aventuras marina, the eco-parks Kantenah, Xcaret, Chen Aktun, Hacienda Tres Rios, Crococun, and Xel-Ha, as well as the community park "La Ceiba," where the magazine photographed the children participating in various activities, as well as the bilingual school, Yits'atil, which is considered one of the best in the area.

While the tourist attractions are most certainly of interest to families considering relocating to Playa del Carmen, the last two points are of particular interest. The community park, "La Ceiba," is a beautiful park focused entirely on residents rather than tourists, providing weekly activities, a weekly market of local crafts and natural foods, a playground, a plant sale, a space for parties and events, a recycling center and a cafe that provides free internet for all visitors to the park. The park is frequented all evenings of the week, by Mexican nationals and expats alike. This is only one example of the many small parks which make life in Playa del Carmen pleasant for families.

Yits'atil is one of several high-quality private schools available in the area, providing a high standard of education and in a bilingual environment allowing children to learn Spanish while still maintaining their education in English. Puerto Aventuras, just south of Playa del Carmen also has a reputable bilingual school.

In terms of real estate, families have a choice of everything from Playa del Carmen luxury condos, in the convenience of downtown, or in the quieter, gated neighborhoods throughout the Riviera Maya, or more affordable units, only slightly further from the beach. Private homes in these same communities allow children to play in a private yard; condominium complexes and gated communities also have shared green areas within walking distances.
