One of the many advantages for foreigners who buy Playa del Carmen real estate is the close access to a variety of natural settings, ranging from local city parks to the famous Caribbean beachfront, to large eco-parks, developed to optimize visitors' interaction with the natural setting, while protecting both from harm.

One prime example of a beautiful city park is "La Ceiba" located just across the highway from downtown Playa del Carmen, off of Juarez Ave., downtown's "main street." The park actually has a very strong environmental focus, including a recycling center and area for plant sales, preserving the natural vegetation of the area. There are also events in the park on a weekly basis, including environmental workshops, cultural events and craft and food markets. The park has a cafe (proceeds go to maintaining the park) and free wireless internet. Both Mexican nationals and expats enjoy the park on a daily basis.

This park is on the "other side" of the highway (i.e. non-beach side), providing easy access for the growing number high-quality developments focused for non-Mexican buyers appearing on that side of the highway. (The beach is still only a 10 minute drive away, if there's traffic, so real estate in this area is becoming more popular.) Also, due to its short distance from the highway and Juarez Ave, its within easy access to most Playa del Carmen communities by car or taxi. Perhaps more importantly, this is only one example of the beautiful little parks which spot Playa del Carmen and the nearby communities.

While most people are familiar with Playa del Carmen's world famous beach, another excellent way to enjoy close contact with nature is the area's excellent range of eco-parks; Xcaret, about 10 minutes south of Playa del Carmen, towards Tulum, is highly developed park, with many cultural displays integrated into a very natural setting, perfect for viewing and interaction. On the other end of the spectrum, their are eco-parks which have barely cut a few paths into the jungle, allowing visitors to see the vegetation and natural features such as "cenotes" (sink holes at the entrance to an underground cave system with cool, refreshing pools ideal for a swim on a hot day) more directly in their original state.

As a resident of Playa del Carmen, you will have many more opportunities to explore and get to know these parks and green areas than occasional tourists. Wherever you buy your home here, it won't be far from picturesque little parks or pure nature for your enjoyment.
